Karatu - Ngorongoro Conservation Area -  Tarangire and  Lake Manyara National Parks 

August 2. Welcome to beautiful Tanzania!

We start the journey together from  Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), from where we go to Karatu. We enjoy welcoming drinks and have dinner in our picturesque Baghayo Garden Suites. The lode is also an organic farm and coffee plantation.

August 3. Chagga culture and traditions

8:00 Coffee, tea, freshly squeezed juice
8:30 - 9:30 Morning yoga in a tropical garden
10:00 Breakfast
Today we enjoy a walk to Wiwaleni waterfalls, where we have a picnic lunch in a lush African forest. Then we visit a Chagga- village where we see how the Chagga tribe makes traditional banana beer, and we have banana beer tastings! We also visit a local banana plantation and meet local farmers. We return to our lodge for a relaxing evening yoga practice and a candlelight dinner.

August 4. Tarangire National Park

We wake up early for breakfast, and head to Tarangire National Park.  Tarangire is famous for its incredible diversity of landscapes, large herds of elephants, majestic and ancient Baobab trees, birding, and authentic safari atmosphere. Unspoiled Tarangire is dominated by the impressive valley of the Tarangire River. We have a picnic lunch by the river. We return to our lodge for relaxing evening yoga and Dinner.

August 5. African Arts
8:00 Coffee, tea, freshly squeezed juice
8:30 - 9:30 Morning yoga in a tropical garden
10:00 Breakfast
Today we discover African arts by attending two creative culture workshops. No prior knowledge or skill is required! The first workshop is painting with a local artist who teach us about Tinga Tinga visual painting tradition. After lunch, we join an African dance workshop where we have fun by learning vivid rhythms and dancing with Ngoma drums. An experieince you won't forget!

August 6. Maasai village

8:30 - 9:30 Morning yoga in a tropical garden
10:00 Breakfast
Today we spend all day in an authentic local Maasai homestead (boma). We have a unique chance to stay in a boma, explore the fascinating pastoralists' lifestyle, and join their everyday lives. Here you can experience the beautiful landscape of the African savanna and the African Rift Valley. We join Maasai women to fetch firewood or water. We have a picnic lunch in the Maasai village, and we return to the lodge in the afternoon for our relaxing evening yoga practice and dinner.

August 7. Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Welcome to explore one of the natural wonders of the world! Ngorongoro Conservation Area is on the UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact caldera from a long-extinct volcano. It is home to about 25,000 wild creatures, including 26 black rhinoceros, who live within the safety of the caldera walls. There are seven thousand wildebeests, 4,000 zebras, 3,000 elands, and 3,000 Grant's and Thomson's gazelles. We have a memorable day in the Crater. We have a picnic lunch by the hippo pool and return to our lodge for relaxing yoga practice and Dinner.

August 8. Lake Manyara National Park

7:30 - 8:30 Morning yoga in a tropical garden

After Breakfast, we go to Lake Manyara National Park. Ernest Hemingway called this lake ‘the most beautiful lake in all Africa.’ The Lake Manyara national park features a ground-water forest, acacia woodland, and Maji Moto hot springs. The park is well known for its unusual tree-climbing lions and large herds of elephant herds it was established to protect. After picnic lunch, we return to our lodge. You can relax by the pool, walk around the coffee plantation or read a book in your private veranda before evening yoga and Dinner.

August 9. Kilimanjaro Airport

8:30 - 9:30 Morning yoga in a tropical garden
10:00 Breakfast
After Breakfast, we say goodbyes for our lovely lodge as we head to Arusha. On the way back to the airport, we stop at Cultural Heritage Centre where you can visit African Contemporary Art Gallery or local artisan shops. We arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in the afternoon around 5 pm. You can book an evening flight.

About us

Anniina Sandberg

Anniina is the founder of Visit Natives which promotes sustainable indigenous tourism. Anniina has an MA in African Studies and she has lived among the Maasai in Tanzania. Besides running the Visit Natives, Anniina is a Swahili interpreter and she will be our guide on the trip giving some anthropological insights during the journey. We will also visit a Maasai boma where Anniina stayed while conducting her fieldwork - the trip is all about connecting with people, cultures, and inner happiness.

Zohar Palacio

Zohar is an Entrepreneur, founder of Zohar.Yoga.Flex, and passionate about health and people. She is a qualified Yoga teacher and Flexibility coach, and she has vast experience working with adults with different levels. Through her practice, she helps students connect deeper with their minds and body. During the retreat, she will be teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa-inspired flows, where she adds elements of the Flexibility technique. She will not only help you to reset and enjoy the days in Tanzania but also come back from the retreat completely renewed and energized!

The trip starts on 2nd August from Kilimanjaro Airport, Tanzania.

We departure from Kilimanjaro airport at 7 pm. 

The trip ends at Kilimanjaro airport where we arrive on 9th August around 5 pm.

From Kilimanjaro airport, it takes about three hours to arrive at our lodge in Karatu.

Accommodation

We stay in a picturesque small Baghayo Garden Suites  (only 14 cottage-style suite rooms) set on five acres of organic coffee plantation. The lodge has a pool in a lush tropical garden, a restaurant, a cozy lounge bar, and a Coffee Garden Spa to treat yourself to relaxing spa treatments. 

Accommodation in spacious twin-share rooms. Each room is a suite, with a separate living room with a fireplace and a private porch overlooking the coffee plantation. Amenities include a large walk-in shower, separate WC, a hairdryer, and a room safe. You can relax in your room by the fireplace or sit on the veranda.

Place Setting

Food - from farm to table

We are served tasty fresh, and healthy meals from organic and locally farmed ingredients. Besides fruits, herbs, vegetables, and coffee, the lodge buys milk, eggs, and honey from a nearby organic farm. The lodge grows its wheat and beans in nearby fields, and fresh bread is baked daily. 

For breakfast, you can expect to help yourself to freshly squeezed juices, granola, bread and jam, tropical fruits, eggs, and made-to-order omelets. While we have our adventures on day trips, we enjoy a picnic lunch enjoying the views of the African wilderness. In the evening, Chefs treat us to a three-course plated dinner from a pre-set menu that includes appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts.
